Types of hearing aids (two columns with text above. Comparison, so to speak)
In the ear or behind the ear Hearing aids that sit in the ear and those that are placed outside the ear differ mainly in their design and size. Here are some of the key differences:
The choice between in-ear and behind-the-ear hearing aids depends on individual preferences, degree of hearing loss, aesthetic preferences, vision, motor skills and desired functions. A qualified hearing care professional can help you choose the most appropriate type of hearing aid based on your needs.
In our premises in Freiburg (100 square meters) we offer the complete range of services relating to hearing aids. A free hearing test, a huge selection of devices that are always available to take with you immediately, a waiting room to relax and wait for your appointment...
No matter whether on foot, by bike, by car or by public transport. We are very well connected. There are parking spaces directly in front of the door, and there are plenty of free parking spaces diagonally opposite and about 10m around the corner. It's only a 100m walk from the Kapellenwinkel stop or the Freiburger Schiff stop. There are sufficient bicycle parking spaces and car parking spaces available. You can find us at Blumentraße 34.
There is no general answer to this. The selection of manufacturers, models and variants is huge. As a patient of a health insurance company (regardless of whether you are a health insurance patient or privately insured) you are entitled to a hearing aid with a prescription. The services provided by the health insurance companies differ. There are devices with a one-off additional payment, but we also have hearing aids from Phonak or Signia available for which no additional payment is necessary.
In general, as a health insurance patient you are generally entitled to hearing aid care every 6 years; as a private patient, you are entitled to a hearing aid every 4-5 years, depending on the tariff and insurance provider.
The cost of hearing aids varies greatly. There are hearing aids for all insurance companies but also BGs that are completely covered (with the exception of the statutory additional payment of €10 per device), and there are also increasingly comfortable hearing aids with private contributions.
How long hearing aids “last” varies; statutory health insurance often pays the basic care again after 6 years. Since technical progress develops enormously over this period, it usually makes sense to inquire about new hearing aids after this time and compare them with existing hearing aids.
Hearing aids usually have two microphones that record the sound and emit it back through a loudspeaker. In between lies the heart of the hearing aid, the “minicomputer” that distinguishes speech from noise, recognizes music if necessary or, depending on the technology, also recognizes whether you are driving or going for a walk. In this case, depending on the level of technology, the hearing aids are directed to the side.
The hearing aids can often be connected to the smartphone. Depending on the technology and smartphone, you can use the hearing aids to make phone calls directly via both hearing aids, but also to listen to music or voice messages. It is often possible to connect the hearing systems to the television via a device.
Depending on the type, we will be happy to show you how to care for your hearing aids at your local specialist store. We offer various utensils depending on the type of hearing aid. However, it is important to visit a specialist store at least four times a year to have the hearing aids professionally cleaned and serviced on site.
With us you can extensively test different types, manufacturers and also price and performance classes tailored to your individual needs.
Depending on the type, hearing aids can be donated, but in some cases it is also advisable to keep the “old” hearing aid in reserve. Be it for a visit to the swimming pool, while gardening or for a vacation.
Since the hearing aids are digital, they can be adjusted again and again. Be it after a longer period of getting used to it, after a change in hearing ability or due to changing living conditions.
There is no general answer to this question. It depends on hearing ability, age and many other factors.
Our facilities allow us to offer you Hearing systems tailored exactly to your hearing needs to take home to try out.
Your feedback is very important to us, we can do this based on your answers and impressions hearing aid tailored even more specifically to your needs and wishes.
