Modern hearing aids have an external speaker. In other words, a thin cable with a small loudspeaker is attached to the hearing aid (see illustration below). This is placed in the ear canal with the help of a silicone cap or an ear piece. This can lead to small blockages due to ear wax on the cap and the loudspeaker. Under the cap there is a small filter (looks like a small white sieve), which can be replaced.
